Air conditioning is important to every space- be it an office space or home. But do you think domestic air conditioning is really necessary? This article will explain.
What Is Domestic Air Conditioning?
Air conditioning or AC as it is commonly known is a device that is used to eliminate heat and moisture from a closed space to provide comfort for the occupants in the space. There are several types of domestic air conditioning systems that range from the central air conditioning system to small plug-in units that can be placed on the floor or mounted in a window. However, they all have similar working components. They have a compressor, refrigerator, a condenser, expansive valve and condenser coil. All these work together and hence transfers the moisture and heat from your home to outdoors. To be precise, they use energy to take away the heat from space.
What Are The Different Types Of Domestic Air Conditioners?
Central Air Conditioner
These type of air conditioning systems are ideal for large homes that need cooling in multiple rooms at once. It uses a split system to regulate air through the ducts that are installed in your home. Therefore it is also known as a ducted system. A split system means it is a combination of two main units. The outdoor unit contains the condenser and compressor. Whilst, the indoor unit has evaporator coils and an air handler. Like any other system, central air conditioning also uses refrigerant to remove heat from the indoor unit. As this heated air is pulled outside, cool air is pushed in through the ducts. It helps in creating a cooler and regulated environment throughout the house simultaneously in minimum time. But, they consume a lot of energy and may result in high energy bills. And the outdoor unit may not be an attractive addition to your house.
Ductless Mini-Split
If you are someone who does not want to have too much ducting in your house and just want only a portion of your home to be cooled, the ductless mini-split air-con units would be best for you. These are energy-efficient and are a great option for contemporary homes. They have two units. The outdoor unit has a compressor and a condenser. These come with one or more indoor units. These wall-mounted units are equipped with air blowers. Both these units are connected through the tubing and based on the usage, the refrigerant circulates through them. The indoor units are small and compact and so each one can be installed in the rooms necessary. As most of them are also heat pumps they can be used to heat or cool a room. These ductless mini-splits come with remote control, at the same time you can also couple them with a smart AC controller to operate them with your phone. Although they cannot be used to cool a large household, they prove to be useful in controlling the temperature of each room individually. However, the indoor split unit will be visible in your rooms.
Portable Air Conditioner
A portable air conditioner is a single unit that has all its components enclosed within itself. But unlike the fixed air conditioners, these are free-standing units and can be easily moved from one room to another based on your needs. All that it requires is a power outlet and window to exhaust its air from the funnel. This could be ideal if you want a temporary space cooling. It can also prove to be useful, when installing a window or split air conditioner is not practical. The portable air conditioning units are very handy and smaller versions. And so they can be used even in spaces like a kennel or bathroom. They can be either of a single hose or dual hose. These are simple and quick to set up and can be easily moved around the house. You would not need the help of air conditioning installers as there is no permanent installation taking place. It can be perfect if you would want to have spot cooling. And they are easy to be stored when not in use. However, on the downside, these are noisy during operation and the hose may obstruct the lower part of your window.
Window Air Conditioner
the window air conditioners come in different shapes and sizes and are suitable for cooling a small area or single room. These are the most common type of air conditioners and have always been a champion of cooling smaller spaces. Like the portable ones, these are single unit air conditioners that have all the components inside them. It removes heat through its outdoor side and blows cool air into the room on the indoor side. It is installed by making a hole in the wall or a window. It has a
filter that can be easily slid out and cleaned regularly. They have controls on the unit itself and also has a remote. While they do not take up much floor space, they also reduce running costs. They obscure the view from a window and can be noisy during operation.
Is It Necessary To Have Domestic Air Conditioning?
Helps in managing heat produced by appliances
n a domestic environment heat is produced by a lot of elements like computers, electrical equipment, small appliances like coffee makers and even by human bodies. Air conditioning helps in reversing the heat produced by these objects, which may otherwise cause discomfort. With AC’s you can maintain a comfortable temperature of around 20-degree Celcius and can reduce excess moisture. As a result, the humidity lies at around 50%.
Improves Air Quality
Apart from maintaining heat and moisture, the air conditioners help in improving the air quality. They work to circulate filtered, clean air into the building. Hence the air inside our houses stays devoid of dirt particles, dust and bacteria that may have entered through the doors and windows. This clean and filtered air is ideal for a healthy family with children and elderly ones.
